PSI Patrol Officer Helps Rescue Sleeping Woman from Bend Apartment Fire

BEND, Ore. — A Patrol Services Inc. officer helped save a resident’s life at the Awbrey Pines Apartments on NW Regency Street early Sunday morning, August 10. Officer Bianney Ventura discovered a fire during her overnight patrol and, working alongside Bend Police, helped bring a sleeping woman out of her smoke-filled unit unharmed.

Smoke Spotted on a Routine Overnight Patrol

It was shortly before 1:40 a.m. when Officer Ventura, making her overnight rounds at Awbrey Pines, noticed two things that didn’t belong: the smell of smoke and the muffled sound of an alarm coming from inside one of the units. She got 911 on the line immediately, triggered the complex’s main fire alarm, and started knocking on doors so nearby residents could get out.

Bend Police reached the complex within about twenty minutes and forced the apartment door open, with Officer Ventura entering alongside them. In a back bedroom, the officers discovered the resident sound asleep — she was wearing headphones and had never heard the alarm — and brought her outside unharmed. Bend Fire & Rescue later determined the fire had started with food left cooking on the stove.

I couldn’t really speak to her, but, yeah, just very glad that I was able to be there at the right time. No sooner or too late, you know.
